Privacy policy

DebtSnowball is built so we know as little about you as possible. There are no accounts, no logins, and no database of users. This page describes everything the site does with data, in plain English.

Your debts stay in your browser

The debts you enter, your chosen method, your extra payment, and your progress baseline are stored in your browser's local storage on your device. They are never uploaded, and we can't see them. “Start over” deletes them, and so does clearing your browser data. If your browser blocks storage, the calculator still works for the session — nothing is saved anywhere. A plan backup you download is a file on your own device; restoring it reads the file in your browser, and it is never uploaded.

If you email yourself a plan

“Email me my plan” is the only feature that sends anything about your debts off your device, and it only happens when you press the button. Your email address and a summary of your plan are sent to Resend, the email delivery service we use, to deliver that one message. If you also tick the updates box, your email address (and nothing else) is kept on our list at Resend so we can write occasionally; every email includes a way out. If you leave the box unticked, nothing is kept.

If you ask for the worksheet

Asking us to email the printable worksheet sends only your email address to Resend. Because the form says so up front, asking for the worksheet also adds that address to our occasional tips list. Every tips email has a one-click unsubscribe. You can also download the worksheet directly without giving us an address at all.

Anonymous usage counts

We use Vercel Web Analytics, a cookieless analytics service, to count page views and a few events: a plan was created, the sample plan was loaded, a plan was emailed or printed, a plan backup was downloaded or restored, the worksheet was requested, the spreadsheet's “Make a copy” button was clicked, a guide's link to the calculator was clicked (with the name of the guide), and an offer was shown or its link was clicked (which offer, never your numbers). No cookies, no cross-site tracking, no personal data, and nothing about your debts — just counts that tell us whether the site is useful.

Sponsored offers

Some pages may recommend products, such as a consolidation loan or a budgeting app, and we may earn a commission if you sign up. Offers are always labeled, and any offer beside your plan is chosen in your browser from your own numbers: your debts are not sent to us or to the company behind the offer. If you follow an offer's link, that company's own privacy policy applies on its site. Details are on our affiliate disclosure page.

We never sell your email address

We do not sell, rent or share the email list with anyone. The one exception: if DebtSnowball itself is ever sold, the list would go with it, still bound by this policy.
